1963 was the year that the Beatles released their first album; The Pink Panther was showing at the cinema; Manchester United won the FA Cup; and Dawley was designated as a New Town.In 1968 the New Town was officially named ‘Telford’ after the civil engineer Thomas Telford, and the development area was expanded.

‘Telford Our New Town’ is a Heritage Lottery funded project bringing together selected, unique material from the Telford Development Corporation Archives and widening access to these resources for people to enjoy.
